We all know about the various health benefits of using olive oil in cooking but did you know that you can use olive oil as a base in many delicious recipes? That’s right, olive oil is being used more and more frequently in a number of delectable recipes! Today, O-Live & Co. will be sharing one of our favorite olive oil inspired recipes with you: homemade olive oil bread.

This tasty recipe substitutes less healthy oils like vegetable oil or canola oil for olive oil, to make a bread that is as packed with health benefits as it is with flavor. This olive oil bread recipe is easy to follow, quick (only about fifteen minutes prep time and forty minutes baketime), and uses only a handful of ingredients. Here’s how you can make homemade olive bread right at home using a bottle of your favorite O-Live & Co. olive oil!

The Benefits of Using Olive Oil in Baking

So why use O-Live & Co. olive oil in baking? There are a number of health benefits associated with substituting less healthy oils such as vegetable oil or canola oil in baking. For one, olive oil cuts down on the “bad” cholesterol and saturated fats in baking. Unlike butter, olive oil is considered a “good” fat that comes without unhealthy properties. (…FULL OF HEALTHY PROPERTIES). It is also a natural source of Vitamin E and antioxidants.

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • ½ cup of warm water
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons of active dry yeast
  • 4 tablespoons of your favorite O-Live & Co. olive oil
  • 2 ½ cups of all purpose flour

Directions for the Homemade Olive Bread Recipe

Step 1: Start by mixing warm water, salt, active dry yeast, and olive oil in a large mixing bowl. Once these ingredients have been mixed thoroughly, stir in two cups of flour until you are able to form the ingredients into a ball. This ball should be soft but not necessarily sticky. If your dough is of a stickier consistency, simply knead in a little more flour until it forms the desired texture. Knead your dough before transferring to a greased bowl of medium size.

Step 2: Cover your dough and let it rise until it is roughly doubled in size.

Step 3: Punch down your dough until it is easy to form and then roll it into either a ball or loaf shape. This is dependent on whether you will be making an olive oil roll or an olive oil bread loaf. Place your dough onto a pre-greased cookie sheet.

Step 4: Cover your dough and let it rise for roughly 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 5: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.

Step 6: Once your oven is fully heated to 375 degrees, bake your bread for 30 to 40 minutes. By the end of baketime, your bread should be golden brown in color.

O-Live & Co. highly recommends serving your homemade olive bread with a side of your favorite O-Live & Co. olive oil for dipping. This moistens the bread for eating and brings out the flavor in this already delicious bread.
